Project Description
Conclusion
The comprehensive overhaul of Adaptive Biotechnologies’ Order Management System (OMS) marks a significant leap in the company’s dedication to enhancing technological infrastructure and operational efficiency. The transition from the outdated OMS and LIMs systems to the robust and versatile new OMS and LabVantage, has significantly improved the user experience for customer-facing teams.
The deployment of an advanced microservices architecture, combined with the IBM Carbon design system, has transformed OMS into a platform that is intuitive, responsive, and deeply user-centric. This transformation has notably enhanced the management of Clinical Diagnostic and Clinical Trials orders, while ensuring seamless integration with essential laboratory software such as LabVantage, Salesforce, Benchling, and others.
Throughout the first year of the project, our lean UX team achieved several key milestones:
- We reduced cognitive load by implemented the “chunk method,” overhauling issues and notes functions into a highly usable Flags feature,
- We focused the users ability to manage daily work by introducing the Carbon Design System’s robust data table componentry, as well as Flagging and Assigning functions,
- We amplified the organization’s commitment to patient advocacy by introducing patient focused information architecture, and by documenting future state suggestions around subject data linking,
- We reimagined the workflows around specimen and shipment processing,
- We introduced micro-dashboarding and heads-up display features on specific pages to provide essential workflow metrics at a glance.
Looking ahead, the UX team plans to address technical debt and oversight missed during sprints. Utilizing instrumented data supplied by our developers, we aim to assess page-by-page usage by various personas and make improvements to features most heavily used. With a focus on reducing clicks and increasing efficiency, particularly in repetitive workflows, our ongoing efforts will be agile and responsive to the nuanced needs of our diverse teams across Adaptive’s ecosystems.
